Help the People of Florida Recover from Hurricane Ian

GlobalGives has launched a giving opportunity to bring relief to the people of Florida and others hit by Hurricane Ian. The campaign includes a $5,000 company donation and 100% matching for employee donations.

Even before Hurricane Ian reached Florida, the Weather Prediction Center predicted "widespread life-threatening, catastrophic flash and urban flooding". That is what many parts of south-western Florida experienced. It was battered by winds of 150 mph and a storm surge of 12 feet. Orlando saw 8 to 12 inches of rain with more forecast. Downtown Fort Myers is under 4 feet of water. Dangerously high winds ripped the roof from Port Charlotte’s hospital. Millions of people have no power and no clean drinking water.

Many lives have been lost. Search and rescue efforts are underway, but it is complicated by destruction to roads, bridges, causeways, and cell phone towers, and by hazardous conditions for rescue teams. The damage to infrastructure is severe. Many people have lost their homes and businesses. And with each passing hour, we learn more about the devastation Ian has caused.

To help the people of Florida and others impacted by Hurricane Ian, GlobalGives has initiated a $5,000 company donation combined with 100% matching for employee donations to the American Red Cross.
