MSF is supporting humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Donate now to ensure we are ready to respond to emergencies around the world.

von Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has worked in Gaza for 35 years, but the escalation of violence in the past year has been catastrophic. On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants launched horrific attacks within Israel, killing more than 1,200 people and taking 251 people as hostages. In response, Israel launched a horrific military offensive on Gaza that has so far killed more than 41,000 Palestinians, 11,000 of them children. Among those killed in Gaza are six of our colleagues and many more family members.

A year into this offensive, the Israeli military’s unrelenting airstrikes have reduced much of the Gaza Strip to rubble. 1.9 million people have been forced from their homes—often multiple times.

Despite it all, over 700 MSF staff are working in Gaza right now, caring for patients in their time of need. We are still working in Gaza, performing surgeries, caring for mothers and their newborns, providing mental health support, and vaccinating children against polio. We have also opened two field hospitals to respond to growing needs.

MSF calls on all parties to the conflict in Gaza to ensure the protection of civilians. We continue to call for an immediate and sustained ceasefire to save lives. We are so grateful to those of you who have raised your voices with us.

We do not currently work in Israel because the country has a strong health system and medical infrastructure.

Most of the 70+ countries where we work have long-term needs. That's why MSF maintains a presence in so many places—so that when emergencies strike, we can be ready. And it's why flexible funding, the kind that isn't earmarked toward a specific project or country, is so important: it gives us the steady support we need to act quickly, in an emergency, and wherever the need is greatest.

Our ability to quickly respond to crises like those in Gaza is made entirely possible by unrestricted and flexible funding. MSF USA is entirely funded by independent supporters and takes no US government funding. We can provide independent and impartial medical care thanks to unrestricted gifts. We can mobilize quickly to save lives when an emergency strikes—sometimes within a matter of hours— because unrestricted support means we don't have to wait to write grants or face red tape before we respond.
