On 31 August 2025, at 11:47 PM local time, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Afghanistan. At least 802 people have been killed and 2,498 injured, with about 3,300 people directly affected most of them women and children.
CARE Afghanistan and our local partners are working to reach communities affected by the earthquake, including in areas that are the most cut off and difficult to access. Many roads are blocked, forcing assessment teams to walk for four to five hours to reach survivors. We are conducting rapid needs assessments to understand the scale of impact and determine the best way to help those affected and are preparing to provide emergency assistance when possible. From our teams on the ground, CARE has identified the immediate needs which include: Shelter (tents, tarpaulins), NFIs (blankets, cooking sets, hygiene kits), clean water, food (hot meals, HEBs), and urgent medical supplies (saline, IV fluids, bandages).
Your donation today will go directly to these immediate needs to help as the situation continues to grow.
