Urgent help needed for those suffering in the Gaza Strip! Polish Humanitarian Action provides food and humanitarian aid
por Polska Akcja Humanitarna|Polish Humanitarian ActionUrgent help is needed for those suffering in the Gaza Strip. Polish Humanitarian Action will provide food and immediate aid to those affected. We plan to reach approx. 10,920 people.
Since October 2023, the Gaza Strip has been the site of intense military hostilities. As many as 80% of the 2.2 million inhabitants were forced to flee their homes in search of a safe shelter. The humanitarian situation there is dramatic and the delivery of aid to the people of Gaza is extremely difficult. Food has been scarce for months, as a result of which more than half of the Palestinians living there are at risk of severe or extreme malnutrition.
Basic food products are unavailable or so expensive that they are unaffordable to the average family. Most households have sufficient money for only one meal a day, many others can only afford to eat every two or three days. Without access to humanitarian aid, the situation will become more and more dramatic, as according to FAO findings, over 57% of agricultural land in the Gaza Strip has been destroyed and is unsuitable for use.
Therefore, in cooperation with CARE Palestine and the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee, PAH has initiated a project to provide immediate food aid to internally displaced residents of the Gaza Strip. Specially prepared food packages will be distributed to 1,945 households (i.e. approximately 10,920 people). Recipients of the aid will be selected based on the identification of needs directly on site. The aid will be aimed in particular at households with small children, elderly people and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Each food package contains supplies sufficient for a household for approximately one month. Their number may change depending on the assessment of the situation and available funds. The food packages will include: beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas, canned goods, cheese, pasta, halva, sugar, rice, salt, olive oil, tomato sauce, tahini and flour, and, if available, also fresh vegetables and eggs. PAH and its partners place special emphasis on providing aid to locations that are isolated and lack any other type of support.
