The purpose of The Salvation Army is succinctly stated in its mission statement: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
The Salvation Army ranks among the top 10 most trusted non-profit organizations in America. Dollars contributed to The Salvation Army are appreciated and valued. The Army maximizes donations by using 83 cents of every dollar donated to provide direct programs and services. 90% of dollars raised stay within our community.
The Salvation Army, through programs and services, meets the needs of children, families, men and women and seniors in our community. Within the past 12 months, The Salvation Army has provided assistance and help in a variety of ways. Through our Food Pantry, over 2,400 grocery orders have provided supplemental food for families, individuals and seniors. Over 800 people (227 families and 52 individuals) have received utility assistance to avoid shup-off or rental assistance to avoid evictions. Over 1,200 people (men, women, children and seniors) have been helped with clothing assistance. Over 9,500 toys have been given to children for Christmas and over 1,000 people have been helped through our Christmas food basket program. In addition to basic needs, The Salvation Army provides fellowship programs, educational programs (such as financial management and the Red shield Community Garden), spiritual uplifting programs, basketball programs, etc. The Salvation Army also provides hot meals and snacks on a weekly basis for programs such as the Golden Agers Club and Youth Programs.
