PAH started its work more than thirty one years ago in response to the war in the Balkans. In 1992 our organization sent its first humanitarian convoy to Sarajevo.
Since then we grew in size and developed our work all around the globe. We provided immediate aid for the victims of the escalation of war in Ukraine and developed our activities directed at internally displaced people in Ukraine and refugees in Poland.
Right now there are more than 250 people employed in PAH and our offices are located in 7 countries. In Ukraine, Somalia, South Sudan, Kenya and Madagascar the majority of employees are local people who know best their country, culture and language.
We believe in mutual cooperation between donors, humanitarian workers and aid recipients. We evalute our work using the MEAL procedure (monitoring, evaluation, accountability and action).
Our strategic objective is to provide humanitarian aid in areas afflicted by conflicts, natural disasters, poverty and climate change. We believe in humanity, independence, impartiality and neutrality.
We help local communities regardless of their race, culture, language and religion. We are especially focused on the most vulnarable groups such as children, women, people with disabilites, refugees and IDPs which are often most affected by humanitarian crises.
We have the greatest experience and expertise in the WASH sector - providing access to safe and clean water as well as toilets.
How do we help?
• we build wells and rainwater tanks,
• we build sand dams,
• we install filters for water purification,
• we drill irrigation canals
• we support the development of effective agriculture, adapted to climate change.
• we prepare residents in the event of drought or flood and help those who have lost everything due to natural disasters.
However humanitarian aid is more than just providing access to water, toilets and food. Its goal is not only to meet the basic needs of affected people, such as access to food, water, shelter and health care but also provide psychological and social support to those affected in order to increase their resilience to ongoing and future disasters.
At the moment apart from our long-term projects we are working on providing immediate humanitarian aid in Gaza, Ukraine and Syria.
